Odoo Manufacturing ERP FAQs
Odoo Manufacturing is the MRP app of Odoo ERP. It manages bills of materials, manufacturing orders, work orders, routings and work centers, and it is connected live to inventory, purchase, sales, quality, maintenance and accounting. A confirmed sales order can automatically trigger component purchases and production through replenishment rules.
Odoo suits discrete and assembly manufacturers, batch and process manufacturers that need lot and expiry tracking, make-to-order and make-to-stock producers, job shops, subcontracting businesses and multi-plant groups. Very specialised process industries may need customization, which we confirm during the fit-gap analysis.
Odoo Community covers MRP, bills of materials, work orders, subcontracting, inventory and maintenance. Odoo Enterprise adds Shop Floor, Quality, PLM, the Master Production Schedule, Barcode, IoT and full Accounting. Many plants that need quality control and operator tablets choose Enterprise; we recommend the edition after mapping your processes.
Each plant can be set up as its own warehouse or company, with its own routes, work centers and stock. Odoo handles inter-warehouse and inter-company transfers, and management can see production, stock and costs for each plant or consolidated across all plants and countries.
Odoo calculates Overall Equipment Effectiveness for each work center from work order time tracking. Operators log start, pause and stop reasons on the Shop Floor screen, so you can see where availability and performance are lost. Scrap and by-products are recorded against each manufacturing order, which makes waste and its cost visible.
You define a subcontracting bill of materials linked to the vendor. Odoo creates the purchase order, resupplies components to the subcontractor, tracks the stock held at the vendor and consumes those components when the finished goods are received. The subcontracting fee is included in the product cost.
The Master Production Schedule in Odoo Enterprise lets planners enter demand forecasts per product and period. Odoo then suggests what to produce and buy based on forecasts, confirmed orders and stock on hand. Reordering rules and make-to-order routes handle replenishment for the remaining products.
Odoo supports standard, average and FIFO costing. A manufacturing order cost includes components, work center hourly costs, labour time and subcontracting, and you can compare the actual cost with the expected cost. Landed costs such as freight and duty can be added to purchased materials.
Yes. The Odoo IoT Box connects scales, measuring tools, cameras and printers directly. For PLC, SCADA, weighbridge, LIMS and fleet systems we build integrations through APIs or middleware, so machine output, weights and lab results flow into Odoo without manual entry.
Yes. We migrate items, bills of materials, routings, open orders, stock with lots and serial numbers, and financial balances from Tally, SAP, QuickBooks, spreadsheets, other ERPs and older Odoo or OpenERP versions. We run a test migration before go-live so your team can check the data.
